Recently the Dorset Library received a 2 to 1 matching grant from the Libri Foundation for children’s board books, picture books and fiction books. Friends of the Library contributed $350 and the Libri Foundation contributed $700. The library received 63 books which will be displayed in the library during November ready for circulation. A “NEW BOOK GATHERING” will be held for all children in mid-November.

The library has purchased many books and audio books this year. Stop in the library and enjoy the new books and old favorites!

Young people will be delighted to discover stimulating hands-on materials to help them explore the world of books. A wide variety of materials are available for the children of Dorset to borrow. Beginning with BOARD BOOKS for the very youngest to reference materials for high school students the Library offers up-to-date materials for all ages. The Young People’s Rooms at the Dorset Library are a great place to spend an afternoon. There are games to play, puppets to perform with, a relaxing place to browse and read or even listen to a book on tape.

Preschoolers will find board books, floor puzzles, Folkmanis puppet sets with books that tell an interesting tale or meaningful facts about each puppet, many picture books with a cassette that reads the story (these are especially good for the car), picture books that help increase the child’s speaking vocabulary, and computer programs.

Elementary school aged children may borrow picture books, easy readers as well as transitional fiction, audio books on cassette and CDs, DVDs, puppets, Explorer Packs which include books, videos, games/and/or puzzles, activity suggestions, etc. on a particular subject and games. To lighten the load, many paperbacks are included in the collection. A wide range of nonfiction materials are available to help students with their school work and individual interests.

A section of the first floor has been set aside for Young Adult fiction. Here teens will find current award winners as well as their favorite authors.

The Library also makes bulk loans of library materials to the Dorset School for Classroom Libraries to better serve all children in the community.
